Prof (Dr) D David Neels Ponkumar

Prof (Dr) D David Neels Ponkumar was born in a remote village named kariyavillai located in the southern most district, Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu in 1971. He was a meritorious student from his VIII standard and got the scholarship for four years for acquiring second place in his district. He is a proud Alumni of the most prestigious boys school in Nagercoil and was a State Rank holder in Class X. He got Engineering seat through counseling under government quota and he graduated in the year 1992 in the BE Electronics and Communication stream.

Even though becoming an IAS officer was his childhood dream he was forced to go for work as he lost his caring mother when he was just 19. He missed opportunity to become an Aeronautical Engineer in Indian Air Force by the narrowest of margin.

He started his working career as Marketing cum Service Engineer for Kentom Industries Bangalore in 1992. In 1995 he got an opportunity to work in Gulf Region in Saudi Arabia and was a flag bearer of Horizon Automatic Door factory in the role of Quality Control Engineer and Branch Manager. In deputation he was associated with Remal Al Sawahel as Maintenance Engineer in Electronics and Electrical Department and HVAC at Damman Health Science College Dammam, KSA. Then in 2001 he took charge as Business Development Manager at ACC Solution Providers, Nagercoil before switch careers to Teaching with a Masters Degree in Digital Communication and Network Engineering from Anna University Chennai in 2004.

He started his career as Part Time Lecturer in AKCE, (presently Kalasalingam University) in 2002. Then he was associated with FX Engineering College, Tirunelveli in the departments of IT and ECE donning the role of Head of ECE department for three years. During his tenure with FX Engineering College he became a Cisco Certified Network Associate Instructor (CCNAI) through IIIT, Bangalore in 2007. He has produced many CCNA batches through Cisco academy. In 2005 he moved to Singapore as Assistant Professor for ME (CS & IT) students of University of La Rochella, Singapore Unit designing curriculum and grooming three batches in User Interface Design, Network and Multimedia Technologies. Then he changed the face of JS Engineering college as Principal from 2009 for one and half years. During that period he completed his MBA in Education Management from Alagappa University. Then he was associated with Einstein Engineering College as PG Coordinator from 2011 to 2014. After completing his PhD in Wireless Networks from Anna University Chennai in 2014 he took charge as Head of ECE department in Dr Sivanthi Aditanar College of Engineering and led with distinction for six long years. In 2021 he took charge as Head of ECE department and become the IQAC Coordinator at Thamirabharani Engineering College.

He has published in more than 24 papers in reputed International journals and presented in more than 20 International Conferences. He has reviewed manuscripts for a number of VLSI, Embedded and Networking Domains. He received a fund of Rs.13.5 Lakhs from AICTE under MODROB scheme in 2019. He has filed and published 3 patents in IoT and Embedded domains.
